What to know about your Academic Advisement Report (AAR)

An Academic Advisement Report (AAR) is a tool used by you and your advisor to track the completion of the requirements needed to earn a degree at IU Indianapolis.

The AAR, sometimes called a degree audit or degree progress report, will show you which requirements for your school and major are satisfied (complete), which requirements have not been satisfied, and which courses can be taken to complete any unsatisfied requirements.

A variation of the AAR called a “What-If” report lets you see what would happen to your plans if you changed your major.

Knowing how to review your AAR ensures you’re in control of your degree progress. You can run the report at any time and as often as you need which also means finding—and resolving—issues that arise quickly.

Your AAR isn’t a substitute for meeting with your academic advisor. Use it to prepare for your advising sessions, not replace them.

Creating a What-If report

If you’re considering changing your major, you can create a What-If Academic Advisement Report in One.IU to see how the courses you’ve already taken will apply to a new program of study. You can also use this tool to explore majors and programs on other IU campuses.

Use the What-If report to see how future classes will affect your degree progress—search for the courses you plan to take and add them to your scenario to see where they might apply.

Plan ahead with iGPS

Success doesn’t just happen—you have to plan for it. The Interactive Graduation Planning System (iGPS) ties together many systems to provide you with immediate feedback about your degree completion progress.

The AAR breaks down your degree into requirements (campus requirements, school requirements, major requirements) . The iGPS Degree Maps provide a different view, showing you a semester-by-semester way to graduate in four years. You can then pull your degree map into your iGPS Plan and develop a customized approach that helps to meet your needs and plan your future courses.
