B/MD Pathway to Medicine Program

Go further with a direct pathway to medical school

As the state's premier research and life sciences university, Indiana University Indianapolis has everything you need to achieve your dreams of a future in medicine, including the nation's largest School of Medicine. Our B/MD Pathway to Medicine program can make your dream a reality.

An innovative program offered by the IU Indianapolis School of Science in connection with the IU School of Medicine, the B/MD program provides a direct path to admission to the School of Medicine for qualified beginning freshmen who are directly admitted to the School of Science.

A foundation of support and preparation

When you are admitted to the program you will be supplied with a foundation for medical education that includes special curriculum, academic advising, mentoring, MCAT preparation, and clinical or research experience. These specialized resources won't just get you prepared for medical school —  they'll help set you up for success for everything that comes next.

Which path will you take?

When you are admitted to the B/MD program, you will choose which one of our two tracks to take.

3+4

This is the accelerated path.

After admission, you will complete all IU Indianapolis general education core and medical school prerequisite coursework at the School of Science in three years. The remaining four years of coursework will be through the IU School of Medicine.

4+4

This is the traditional path.

After admission, you will complete four years of education at the School of Science, and the remaining four at the IU School of Medicine.
