Understanding the university’s grading scale

The values below reflect the university’s official grading system, with grades A+ through F used to calculate your grade point average (GPA). Faculty have the right to choose whether to use plus and minus grades.

0.0 (failed, non-attendance) Given to students whose lack of attendance is the basis for a failing grade. Will appear on transcript as F.

FNN

0.0 (failed, never attended) Given to students who never attended the class. Will appear on transcript as F.

Retaken/Replaced. May also be listed as AX through FX including plus and minus grades. Denotes graded courses subsequently retaken under grade replacement policy.

R

Deferred grade. Indicates multi-term course where final grade cannot be assigned until all required work has been completed

NC

No credit. Course taken on an audit basis

NR

No report submitted by instructor. Used for unreported grades for prior semesters or coursework that has not been graded for the current semester.

NY

Signifies enrollment in a special program for which credit earned will be recorded when the program is completed. Typically used for courses taken through the study abroad program.

T

Transferred. Denotes credits transferred from another institution.

W

Withdrawn. Grade will appear on transcript.
