Laura Walter

Laura works with students planning to study health.

Laura began working at IU Indianapolis as an Academic Advisor in the IU School of Nursing in 2017 after earning her Master of Education in Student Affairs and Leadership from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. She was an Academic Advisor for 5 years before transitioning to the Lead Admissions Counselor for the School of Nursing for the last two years of her time there. She now serves as an Academic Specialist for all Health Pathway Programs. Laura earned her BS in Psychology and Family Studies at Central Michigan University and her favorite college memory was attending the football games; she lived on the athletic floor of the residence hall during her first year and formed friendships with many of the athletes, which made the games a little more exciting.

On campus, Laura’s favorite spot is Ball Garden, located in front of Ball Residence Hall between Riley Hospital and Eskenazi Hospital. It’s off the beaten path but provides a quiet, open space to listen to the fountain, people watch, and take a moment from a busy day to relax a little bit.

When not working, she spends her time reading as many books as possible, starting new projects around her home, baking (macarons are her specialty!), spending time with family in Michigan, and traveling. She’s an avid DIYer and often believes, sometimes to her detriment, that if there’s a youtube video out there to show her how it’s done – she can do just about anything!
