Celebrating the INvestEd Award

For almost half a decade, INvestEd has provided guidance to Indiana students and families on financial resources available for college planning. Their work helps families plan for college and allows students to graduate with as little debt as possible. INvestEd recently awarded IU Indianapolis $1.5 million to support students via experiential learning opportunities, and we are grateful for this endorsement.

In October 2023, IU Indianapolis applied for this award, requesting support to expand the Life and Health Sciences Internship Program and the First-Year Research Immersion Program, also called 1RIP. The award also provides support to faculty in embedding real world learning experiences in sophomore and junior level classes as well as in capstone courses taken by soon-to-graduate seniors. We offer more than 100 capstone courses at IU Indianapolis, and these funds will help faculty extend experiential learning opportunities to more than 3,500 students a year.

Congratulations to all who participated in the award submission. As a public urban research university, we create symbiotic partnerships with industry and community organizations that allow us to translate local challenges and needs into experiential learning opportunities for our students, creating mutually beneficial relationships that strengthen our city, state, and region.
