That's why we've outlined some steps as soon as you're admitted, as well as those you'll need to take care of a little later.

Selecting a college is normally a big decision, and given the national financial aid delay from the US Department of Education, we know that's even more difficult without a clear understanding of the cost. FAFSA delays shouldn’t put your college decision on hold, so here is what we are doing for students who are US citizens or Permanent Residents:
- Don’t pay an enrollment deposit. Instead, tell us your intent to enroll in the first incoming IU Indy class by requesting an enrollment deposit waiver. This way, you can Save your Spot without losing money if something changes.
You'll need your 10-digit university ID to request an enrollment deposit waiver. If you are not sure what yours is, you can look it up.
If you've paid the deposit for IU Indianapolis this fall, no additional action is required. Your $100 deposit will be credited to your student account when you register for classes.

FAFSA update
Student Financial Services will fast-track Financial Aid Notifications once we receive your FAFSA, aiming for mid to late April. Importantly, scholarship awards from IU Indianapolis are not impacted by the FAFSA delays.

There are several steps you can take care of as soon as you're admitted that will help you finalize your future as a Jaguar. Deposits, computing accounts, and in some cases, housing or financial aid, to name a few.
Once you are admitted to IU Indianapolis, you’ll receive a letter of admission via email, as well as some additional messages in the following days which includes the following:
- University ID number: You’ll use this number to create your computing account, as well as in other scenarios throughout your time at IU Indianapolis.
- School/division: Your school is the academic unit to which you have been admitted. Your school will provide your academic advising.
- Major: Your major is your proposed area of study. Acceptance into a major is selective. If your school is University College, you will complete prerequisite courses in your first two semesters to gain admission into your intended major.
- Residency/tuition: Your residency determines whether you will pay in-state or out-of-state tuition.
- Starting term: Your admission is valid only for the term indicated. To start in a different term, use our application update form to request a change of term.
If there are any errors in your admission information, please email us at apply@iu.edu if you were admitted through Undergraduate Admissions, or iapply@iu.edu if you were admitted through International Admissions.
If you did not do so after you applied, you will need to create your IU Indianapolis computing account. To do this, you'll need your 10-digit University ID. Your account will be used to access student systems, email, your transfer credit report, scholarship applications, and it's also what you'll use to reserve your orientation.
Please note that your IU Indianapolis computing account is different than the guest computing account you created when you applied online. The guest computing account was solely for the purpose of submitting your application online.
Setting up your account
Go to One.IU, search for “create my first IU account” and select that task. You’ll then be able to create your username and passphrase, passphrase reset questions, and email address.
Please note, it can take up to 24 hours for your account to fully activate.
Do you already have an account?
If you have previously created an account at IU Indianapolis or for another Indiana University campus, you do not need to create a new one. If needed, you can follow these steps to reset your passphrase. You can also contact the University Information Technology Services help desk at (317) 274-HELP for additional assistance.
Fall 2024 update
As a result of the national delay to the release of financial aid data to colleges and universities from the Department of Education, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will automatically waive the $100 enrollment deposit at the request admitted students who are US citizens or Permanent Residents.
Please note, international students enrolling are not eligible for this waiver.
If you are a freshman who will begin attending IU Indianapolis in the fall, you must pay a nonrefundable enrollment deposit of $100 to accept your offer of admission and secure your place in our freshman class. Your deposit will be applied to your first tuition bill.
You can pay your deposit online. As a reminder, your deposit is not refundable if you decide to attend somewhere other than IU Indianapolis.
You do not have to pay an enrollment deposit if you meet any of the criteria listed here. However, you must request a deposit waiver to reserve your spot at IU Indianapolis.
You are eligible to request a deposit waiver if:
- You are an Indiana 21st Century Scholar.
- You are an IU Indianapolis Pledge Grant recipient.
- You are the child of a disabled veteran receiving 100 percent tuition assistance.
- You are receiving a select IU Indianapolis scholarship that pays all or the majority of your tuition.
Please note, international students are not eligible for enrollment deposit waivers.
You will be eligible to reserve your orientation immediately after paying your deposit or requesting a waiver to the deposit, so long as you have also already created your IU computing account.
Financial aid information
If you’re applying for need-based financial aid, be sure to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Most years the FAFSA is available as early as October 1; however, this year, the Department of Education has announced that this will be delayed as late as December 31, 2023. Indiana's priority deadline to file yours is April 15. Remember to list IU Indianapolis's school code, 001813, on your application to ensure that your results are sent to IU Indianapolis.
Merit-based scholarship information
IU Indianapolis is committed to rewarding the success you have achieved in high school. That's why we offer millions of dollars each year to students from all walks of life through merit-based scholarships. There are two dates to keep in mind when you're looking at scholarships:
- November 15, which is the IU Indianapolis Honors College deadline
- February 15, which is the merit-based scholarship deadline for most other IU Indianapolis awards

You are not required to live on campus as a freshman, but there are several on-campus housing options available to first-year students. The contract process for on-campus housing begins in January. Because of the volume of housing applications we receive, we encourage you to sign your contract early for housing—you can even do that before you submit your enrollment deposit. You will receive priority consideration for on-campus housing if you apply by March 15.
Meal plans are available to all IU Indianapolis students, regardless of whether they live on or off campus. If you live in Ball Residence Hall, North Hall, or University Tower, you’re required to have a meal plan.
If you haven't gone on a campus tour yet, this is a great time to see what makes IU Indianapolis so unique. We offer many options for visiting including our smaller campus tours, our large visit days, meetings with your Academic School of interest, and working with Financial Services.
About orientation
As an incoming student, you are required to attend an on-campus orientation session that will prepare you to be successful at IU Indianapolis. During your orientation, you’ll meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, and learn about the resources available to you at IU Indianapolis.
If you have sent your enrollment deposit (or received a waiver), you'll be able to reserve your summer orientation session in early-to-mid March. Orientations are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to reserve your spot as soon as possible.
Making an orientation reservation
You must pay your enrollment deposit in order to reserve a spot at orientation. If you haven’t paid your enrollment deposit, the Orientation Reservation System will not allow you to make a reservation. You should be eligible to reserve your orientation immediately after submitting your deposit or requesting your deposit waiver.
Before you make a reservation for orientation, you must create your IU Indianapolis computing account. After you’ve done this, use the username and passphrase for your computing account to log in to the Orientation Reservation System. Follow the instructions to choose your reservation date.

Make an orientation reservationAfter you’ve made your reservation, check your IU Indianapolis email account for a confirmation email from Orientation Services. This email has important information about your orientation.
Prior to your orientation, you will be required to complete placement tests that may include the English Guided Self-Placement questionnaire and tests in mathematics, chemistry, and/or a foreign language. The results of these tests will help you and your advisor select appropriate classes for your first semester at IU Indianapolis. Not completing your placement tests will delay your registration for classes during orientation.
Review your confirmation email and reminder email to see your orientation agenda and learn what to bring.
Indiana state law requires IU Indianapolis to inform all students of the risks of meningococcal disease, commonly known as meningitis, and the benefits of vaccination. While you are not required to be vaccinated against meningitis, you must complete the Immunization Compliance Form.
If you were admitted during your senior year, remember that you are required to graduate from high school to attend IU Indianapolis. You are expected to complete all courses listed on your application for admission and to earn a grade of C or better in each class.
If these conditions are not met, it is your responsibility to contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before you begin at IU Indianapolis. Failure to do so could result in a revocation of your acceptance.
If you’re enrolled in college courses (including dual-enrollment courses you have completed or will complete) at the time of admission, you must arrange for a final transcript to be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. You are expected to complete all courses listed on your application for admission, leave your former college with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), and be eligible to return to the college in good standing.
If these conditions are not met, it is your responsibility to contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before you begin at IU Indianapolis. Failure to do so could result in a revocation of your acceptance.
