When reviewing your application, the admissions committee will determine not only if you are admissible to IU Indianapolis, but for most programs they'll also do a secondary review to see if you are eligible for direct admission into your selected major.
If you do not qualify for direct admission, you'll be admitted into University College, where you'll complete pre-requisite courses for your program before being considered again after your freshman or sophomore year.
The exceptions to this review process are applicants to fine arts programs in the Herron School of Art and Design and the School of Nursing. Both of these schools manage their direct admission internally. If you apply to majors in either of these schools, and qualify for admission to IU Indianapolis, you'll first be admitted into University College.
