Completing Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Verification

Completing FAFSA verification is a crucial step in securing your financial aid for college.

Why is this important?

The federal government requires colleges and universities awarding Title IV funding to verify the information on your FAFSA. If you’ve been asked to verify, it means you're one step closer to unlocking financial aid that can cover your tuition and other educational expenses.

To ensure you get all the aid you’re eligible for, it’s essential to submit the requested documentation as soon as you can.

If you’re chosen for verification, your financial aid will not be processed or disbursed until all required documentation is received. Ensure you are checking your IU Email and To Do List regularly!
If you submit documents at the end of the semester or academic year, there is no guarantee that your aid will be reprocessed before the semester/year ends. Not all aid can be reprocessed after the end of a semester.

Who’s reviewing my data?

According to Federal Guidelines, your university (IU Indianapolis) reviews this information to make sure your FAFSA data is accurate, and your federal aid is awarded correctly.

When and how will I know if I need to verify?

Depending on your application, you may get the FAFSA verification request any time after you submit it until September of the next academic year. You will get an email notification, and your To-Do List will show if you’ve been selected for verification and what documents are needed.

How do I verify my FAFSA Information?

To get started, select the academic year you applied for and complete all forms requested in your To-Do List. We've included detailed instructions on the form page itself, so you’ll have all the info you need.

You do not need to fill out all of the forms on this page—only the ones listed in your To Do List.
