Verifying dependent household size

As part of the verification process, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships needs to review your household size information.

Once you’ve submitted your form, please allow up to 15 business days for your documentation to be reviewed. Additional documentation may be requested, and any form that is incomplete or provides discrepant information will require follow-up and delay processing.

If we are unable to complete verification, we may be required to cancel any existing financial aid awards you might have received.

Step 1: Complete the verification form

Please provide your household size information through either of the following options. You do NOT need to complete both.

Instructions for filling out the form

If your legal parents are not married to each other:

  • Answer the questions based on the parent who will provide more than 50 percent of your support from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.
  • If the parent providing the support has married or remarried, stepparent information is required.

List all people that should be included in your household size information, starting with yourself. You should include your parent, his or her spouse (if married), and any children or dependents living in the home if your parent will provide more than half of their support from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.

If your parent pays child support for a child, do not include that child in your household.

Sign the worksheet (along with a parent). Electronic signatures are not accepted. Make sure to provide your university ID on the worksheet to ensure there is no delay of processing. Please note that in some cases additional documentation may be requested.

Step 2: Submit the form

You can either submit online, in person, or via mail. Choose one of the following to complete your verification. There are two ways to submit online:

Scan the signed email or worksheet and email it to finaid@iu.edu.

Or, scan your signed worksheet and upload it using the secure upload tool.

Submit in-person or via mail:
