Admissions-based scholarships
If you’re getting ready to apply to IU Indianapolis as a beginning freshman or transfer student, or have recently been admitted, you’re automatically considered for the highest admissions-based scholarship for which you’re eligible—no additional scholarship application is required. To be considered for all admissions-based scholarships, make sure your application for admission to IU Indianapolis is in by February 15th.
Scholarships requiring an additional application
Once you have applied for admission to IU Indianapolis, you’ll be eligible to create your IU computing account. You can then apply for more scholarship opportunities, which may require additional materials, such as a personal statement or letters of recommendation.

Scholarships by academic program or school
Scholarships and fellowships are a great way to lower your costs. Some are offered for specific majors and programs, while others are open to incoming students to the school.
The IU Indianapolis Honors College
The Honors College offers incoming freshmen, who’ve proven themselves academically and beyond, the opportunity to apply for four competitive scholarships. To be considered, make sure you apply for admission to IU Indianapolis by November 1 and then submit your application to the Honors College no later than November 15.
Cox Scholars
Cox Scholarships award between $5,000–$15,000 to hardworking Indiana residents, along with service opportunities, connection to other scholars on campus, and the development of personal and professional skills. Incoming freshmen must submit application materials by February 15. The deadline for current students is April 1.
Through their Eyes Memorial Scholarship
The Through their Eyes Memorial Scholarship is in honor of the displaced families of the thriving Black community that occupied the land that is now IU Indianapolis. Founded in 1969, IU Indianapolis stands on the historic homelands of Native peoples and a vibrant Black community. This scholarship honors the descendants of those with displaced ancestors who once called the Ransom Place & Indiana Avenue communities home.
Criteria:
- This scholarship is open to any incoming or current IU Indianapolis student whose family was displaced during the establishment and building of the downtown IU Indianapolis campus.
- Applicants will be required to submit an essay detailing their families affiliation with the noted communities and IU Indianapolis.
- Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate or provide evidence of their families affiliation to the Ransom or Indiana Avenue communities.
- A student must be enrolled in a undergraduate degree program and a minimum of 6 credit hours to be considered.
The award amount will be determined and offered based on enrollment level and need after other state/grant aid in the financial aid package.
